Pilots - First Officers

Southwest Airlines Pilots are responsible for flying our "Red-Bellied" planes throughout our system and are known for maintaining the highest level of Safety and professionalism. Southwest Airlines Pilots are often considered to be the most efficient and hardworking in the industry. They care for our Customers, make entertaining and informative announcements, exercise their Freedom to make their jobs FUN, and, oh, they do a little flying too.

With our legendary quick aircraft turns, these folks know how to hustle! Southwest Airlines Pilots are responsible for the more than 3,200 safe and timely departures each day (oh, and the arrivals, too!). They enjoy the most competitive compensation package in the industry and have flexibility to be based (by seniority) at any one of our eight Pilot bases. Nearly 50 percent of our Pilots commute to work. All of our scheduled flying lines are built as either morning or evening lines, affording our Pilots flexibility in choosing when they want to work. And, like all Southwest Airlines Employees, our Pilots can choose from many healthcare plans and options, for which Southwest picks up a generous portion; they also benefit from our 401 (k), ProfitSharing, and Stock Purchase Plans.
