Fare Information
Our four fare bundles are Choice Extra, Choice Preferred, Choice, and Basic. We also have our Getaways fare bundle offered through Getaways by Southwest™ vacation packages.
Choice Extra fares
- Choose your Extra Legroom seat with more legroom to stretch out, located at the front of the cabin and exit rows, if available. Or you may choose any open seat on the aircraft as part of the Choice Extra bundle.
- Customers in Extra Legroom seats will be offered a premium snack (on flights traveling 301 miles or more) and complimentary premium drinks (on flights traveling 251 miles or more). Service may be modified or limited at Southwest's® discretion. Must be 21 or older to consume alcoholic beverages. Alcohol served onboard must be consumed onboard the aircraft
- Boarding group 1 or 2. This gives you earlier access to overhead bin space.
- No cancel fees. All fare types are eligible for cancellations without a fee. For roundtrip reservations, if one or both flight segments is booked with a Basic fare, cancellations are only permitted if either a) both flight segments are canceled or b) the Basic fare segment(s) is upgraded. Failure to cancel a reservation at least 10 minutes prior to original scheduled departure may result in forfeited travel funds.
- Refundable, as long as you cancel your reservation at least 10 minutes prior to the original scheduled departure of your flight, then you're eligible to receive 100% of your ticket value as a refund to your original form of payment. A Southwest® flight credit from a previous reservation that is applied toward a Choice Extra fare will be refunded as a Transferable Flight Credit™. For travel booked with Rapid Rewards® points, if canceled, points will be returned to the Rapid Rewards account holder who booked the ticket. If you do not cancel, your funds will be refunded as a Transferable Flight Credit™. the ticket. To receive a credit, you must cancel your flight at least 10 minutes prior to the flight's original scheduled departure time. If you do not cancel, your points and funds may be forfeited. Points can be earned from (a) Qualifying Flights (defined below) operated by Southwest®, or (b) through qualifying purchases with our Rapid Rewards partners. "Qualifying Flights" include flights operated by Southwest Airlines® and paid entirely with dollars, Southwest LUV Vouchers®, gift cards, or flight credits and those paid with Cash + Points. NOTE: With a Cash + Points booking, points are earned only on the portion of the base fare that is paid with dollars. - Free same-day change/standby: Same-day change: On the day of travel, you can switch free of airline charges to another flight with space available departing on the same calendar day between the same origin airport and destination airport as your original flight. Free same-day change is only available for Choice Extra, Choice Preferred, or Choice fares. Basic fares and Rapid Rewards® A-List Preferred and A-list Members are not eligible for free same-day change unless the Member purchases a qualifying fare. Same-day standby: You can list for same-day standby on an earlier flight via a Southwest® Customer Service Agent at the airport or the Southwest app or mobile web. You will receive a message based on the contact preference selected during booking if you are cleared on the flight. For both same-day change and same-day standby, you must change your flight or request to be added to the same-day standby list at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your original scheduled flight or the no-show policy will apply. If using the app or mobile web, you must make the change or list your name 60 minutes (for domestic flights) or 90 minutes (for international flights) ahead of the new flight's scheduled departure. You will be required to pay any government taxes and fees associated with these itinerary changes, but refunds will be provided. Your original seat and boarding group is not guaranteed. - Complimentary premium drink on select flights traveling 251 miles or more. Service may be modified or limited at Southwest's® discretion. Drink coupons are subject to availability. This coupon has no cash value. Drink coupon is void if altered, sold, purchased, brokered, or bartered. Non-exchangeable for other goods or services. Southwest Airlines® reserves the right to discontinue its drink coupon program at any time. Coupon is invalid after expiration date and will not be updated or replaced. Choice Preferred fares
- Choose your Preferred seat. These seats have standard legroom and are located near the front of cabin, ahead of the exit rows. You may also choose any Standard seat on the aircraft as part of the Choice Preferred fare bundle (subject to availability).
- Boarding Group 3-5.
- No cancel fees. All fare types are eligible for cancellations without a fee. For roundtrip reservations, if one or both flight segments is booked with a Basic fare, cancellations are only permitted if either a) both flight segments are canceled or b) the Basic fare segment(s) is upgraded. Basic fares
- No seat selection with Basic fares; a Standard seat will be assigned to you at check-in. The Standard seats have standard legroom in the back of the aircraft.
- If you are traveling with a child (age 12 and under), then Southwest will endeavor to assign the child (age 12 and under) a seat adjacent to one accompanying Passenger (13 and older) to the greatest extent practicable, and at no additional cost. If no adjacent seating is available prior to boarding, then the Agent will give you the option to take the next available flight on which adjacent seating is available, at no additional cost.

Getaways by Southwest™ Vacation Packages
- Choose your seat: These are Standard seats with standard legroom in the back of the aircraft (subject to availability).
- General boarding group.
- Changes and cancellations: You cannot voluntarily cancel individual products of your package. While you are permitted to make changes to one-way or both ways of your flight itinerary, you may not cancel only one-way of your flight itinerary. If your plans change and you need to modify or cancel your booking prior to departing on your vacation, please contact us at 833-SWA-GTWY (792-4899). - Non-refundable/No-show: You must change or cancel your booking at least 10 minutes prior your first flight's scheduled departure time. If you do not change or cancel your booking at least ten (10) minutes prior to the first flight's original scheduled departure time, your booking will be canceled as a no-show and all of the unused funds will be forfeited. Vacation travel credit created expire 18 months from the date the fare was purchased and ticketed. Vacation travel credit can be transferred between Rapid Rewards® Members.
