Seat Assignment

Seat assignments will be available for purchase for itineraries marketed via Southwest booking channels that contain an AirTran segment. You will be offered the option to purchase an assigned seat on the AirTran-operated portion of a mixed itinerary.

The option to purchase an assigned seat will be made available to you on the confirmation page upon completion of your booking at southwest.com, as well as in the confirmation e-mail you should receive post-purchase. You can also retrieve your itinerary at southwest.com up to 24 hours prior to your flight’s scheduled departure time and purchase a seat assignment for the AirTran-operated portion of a mixed itinerary.

If you purchase a shared itinerary that includes both Southwest and AirTran segments via Southwest booking channels, you must upgrade your entire one-way trip to a Business Select fare to be seated in Business Class on the AirTran segment of your trip.

Yes, by purchasing a Business Select fare, you will receive Business Class on your AirTran-operated flight.  Your seat will be automatically assigned in Business Class at the time of check in.

Yes. If you change or cancel an AirTran-operated flight on which you purchased an assigned seat in advance, the seat fee will be refunded to your original form of payment.

If you are changing flights to another AirTran-operated itinerary and wish to select an assigned seat in advance, you will need to select and repurchase a new assigned seat. Since your original assigned seat purchase will be refunded as part of the change itinerary process, you will not be charged twice.

Yes. If Southwest changes or cancels an AirTran-operated flight on which you purchased an assigned seat in advance, the seat fee paid will be refunded to your original form of payment.
