
For nearly two decades, Southwest Airlines® has connected patients to life-changing medical care through the gift of travel. The Southwest Airlines® Medical Flight Network partners with hospitals and nonprofit organizations to provide free round-trip flights that help patients reach specialized treatment during some of the critical moments in their health journey.

Medical Flights Grants
Since 2007, the Southwest Airlines® Medical Flight Network has provided nearly $61.8 million in donated travel to thousands of patients and caregivers through more than 75 nonprofit grant recipient hospitals and medical transportation organizations.
Grant Overview and Guidelines
Grant Purpose: Medical Flight Grants provide donated flight assistance to eligible nonprofit partners who support patients and caregivers requiring travel to receive life-changing medical treatment with a goal of reducing the financial burden of travel so patients can focus on healing.
Annual Application Cycle
- Application Opening: Every June
- Review Period: July – August
- Donation of flight awards in September
Please note that applications are not accepted outside of this annual window.
Applicants must be one of the following:
- U.S. Based Nonprofit Hospital
- Must hold current 501c3 status
- Must offer specialized medical care (e.g. oncology, transplant services, pediatric specialty care, rare disease treatment, etc.)
- Must be located within 40 miles of a city served by Southwest Airlines
- U.S. Based Nonprofit Medical Transportation Organization
- Must hold current 501c3 status
- Primary mission must be to assist patients with transportation needs (e.g. travel coordination, lodging assistance, medical travel logistics, etc.)
