Graduation Day Games

Game:
Bag Tag Derby
Description:
This game uses “Southwest Airlines bag tags” and teamwork to reinforce United States geography.
Contributed by:
Southwest Airlines Pilot Mark B.

Bag Tag Derby Rules

  1. Break into groups and assign team captains. Team captains will pick who will answer the questions.
  2. The Pilot will be the judge and the scorekeeper (keeping score on the dry erase board may be easiest).
  3. Any player can only answer one question per city. A point is scored for each correctly answered question.
  4. Every player has to try and answer at least one question. The team captains will be responsible for this and will lose a point for each player missed at the end of the game.
  5. Play until a designated time limit decided by the classroom teacher.
  6. Sequence of play:
    1. Draw numbers to see which team will start.
    2. The first team will have a chance to answer all five questions for the bag tag that is picked.
    3. If that team gives two wrong answers for any question, the next team will have one chance to answer only that question.
    4. The first team will then continue to answer the rest of the questions.
    5. After the five questions have been answered, the sequence begins again with the next team.
    6. Teams will take an equal amount of turns within the game’s timeframe.
    7. After the turns are done, deduct any necessary points and declare the winner.
  7. Any one person answering a question can only give one answer. If he or she answers a second question without being picked by the captain, that team will not get a point for that question.
  8. Here are the questions for each bag tag:
    1. What city is the bag tag for?
    2. What state is this city in?
    3. What is the capital of that state?
    4. Locate the city on the Adopt-A-Pilot United States map.
