| TITLE: | Vice President, Safety & Security |
| JOB DESCRIPTION: | Establish and maintain effective Safety and Security management, policies and procedures at Southwest Airlines, including facilitation of independent Safety oversight of operational areas and ensuring compliance with various FAA and DHS regulations and directives and other federal & state regulations. |
| EXPERIENCE: | Barry is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and, prior to joining Southwest in 1990, served as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Bexar County Texas, from 1977 through 1979. He was in private practice in San Antonio with an emphasis in real estate and administrative law. Since coming to Southwest, Barry has served in the positions of Corporate Counsel and Director of Corporate Safety & Environment and worked in a variety of Safety, legal, and operational areas with an emphasis in:

| EDUCATION: | Barry received a JD from the University of Texas School of Law and a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania. |
| FAMILY: | Barry and his wife, Barbara, have two children: Jacob and Annie. |
| FIRST PAYING JOB: | Unloading boxcars for a wholesale grocery company (summer job to stay in shape for high school football). |
| PROUDEST MOMENT: | My family has blessed me with so many that it is impossible to single one out, but the most recent was the combination of Jacob graduating from the University of Texas, becoming a sports writer for the Abilene Reporter News and voluntarily returning the Discover card! |
| BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: | A combination of “God helps those that help themselves” and “Patience is a virtue” – how about “Never quit trying!” |
| BEST ADVICE EVER GIVEN: | With healthy reliance on the advice I’ve received – Believe in yourself, recognize that “Baby Steps” are progress, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. |
