TITLE: Vice President Internal Audit for Southwest Airlines Co.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Lori is responsible for establishing and directing programs and procedures for the internal audit department. She is responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership of internal risk assessment, audit plan development, and monitoring of accounting, financial, operational, and IT controls. To boil it down, Lori is responsible for leading a department that helps to ensure that the company and its employees comply with laws, regulations, and internal policies, and are efficient and effective in carrying out their duties.
LENGTH OF SERVICE AT SOUTHWEST: Started September 5, 2006
EXPERIENCE: Lori has over 17 years experience in industry and public accounting, holding positions in Internal Audit, Risk Consulting, Accounting, and the Ethics and Business Conduct Office. Prior to joining Southwest Airlines, Lori was a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche, LLP, running the internal audit departments for three large public companies (February 2005- August 2006). Lori has also worked as a chief audit executive and established internal audit functions for several companies, including Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (July 2004-February 2005) and Time Warner Telecom (January 2002-July 2004). She was a Group Director of business risk services for Ernst & Young LLP, serving clients in a variety of industries but specializing in mining, manufacturing and telecommunications (February 2000-December 2001). Lori also spent 10 years with Lockheed Martin Corporation (January 1990-February 2000), completing her career there as a regional internal audit manager, and also worked for Texas Instruments (January 1989-December 1990) as an internal auditor.
EDUCATION: Lori earned her BBA in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma (1988). She is a Certified Public Accountant in the states of Texas and Colorado, and a Certified Internal Auditor.
FAMILY: Lori and her husband Glen, have a daughter, Madison and a son, Brooks.
FIRST PAYING JOB: Dipping frozen bananas into chocolate and nuts at a shop in the mall. My first non-paying job was at my parent’s convenience store. I was running the cash register at the age of six.
PROUDEST MOMENT: Gosh, I hope I haven’t had it yet!
BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: Always be nicer to everyone than you are required to be.
