Human Remains


Southwest Airlines will not accept human remains as checked baggage; however, a Customer may take cremated remains onboard as a carryon item under certain conditions. We recommend that cremated remains be presented for transport in a temporary plastic or cardboard container. Please see the TSA’s web site for specific instructions on transporting cremated remains as a carryon item.

A Customer or funeral/cremation facility may choose to transport either cremated or uncremated remains via Southwest Airlines Cargo. Advanced arrangements are required for this service. We recommend that you book your Southwest Support shipment at least 24 hours prior to departure. You may book your shipment up to seven (7) days in advance.

Southwest Airlines Cargo provides professional and reliable transportation for funeral homes and mortuary services and is available to all Southwest Airlines served destinations across our system.
