About The Travel Mom

The Travel Mom with I am so excited to be joining the Southwest family! As The Travel Mom, I have spent the past ten years learning as much as I can about travel from the perspective of a mom. I have visited countless destinations and through trial and error have experienced all kinds of hits and misses when it comes to family travel.

My two children have grown up as my partners in this adventure. I have a son, Charlie, who is a senior in high school and about to embark on a career as a college football player. I share so many travel memories with him from visiting the X-Games in Philadelphia to biking down a volcano in Hawaii. However the highlight of my travels with him has to be last month when we visited Indianapolis and he had the opportunity to watch his favorite football player, Adam Vinitiera of the Colts.

Soccer is my 15-year-old daughter Gabby's passion and through her sport, she has seen the country and many parts of the world. We have had many mother-daughter trips and she is up for anything. While we both love action on our trips, I think our favorite vacations are when we get to experience spa treatments! Gabby finds something to enjoy everywhere we go from New York City to Salt Lake City.

I have been married to my husband, Sid, for nearly 20 years and we have been so many places together. Our adventure began when he proposed in a gondola on a ski trip in Lake Tahoe. We honeymooned in Hawaii and hit the road with the kids once they came along. Our entire family enjoys vacations that include outdoor activities from ski trips to surf lessons.

Southwest makes traveling with the family easy and affordable. I am looking forward to sharing some of my favorite destinations with you and showcasing some terrific places where you can create memories that will last a lifetime. Check back each month to read about family friendly travel ideas and some practical pointers for making the travel less stressful and more enjoyable for everyone.

Three important factors to consider when planning your next family vacation:

  • Experience:
What type of vacation works for my family? Should we go site-seeing in a big city or relax at the beach? Are we looking for the opportunity for all of us to spend time together or do we want to have individual activities for each of us? Does my family enjoy structure and schedule or do we want to “wing it”?
  • Budget:
How much money do we really, truly want to spend on this vacation and how can we make the most of our travel dollar? What are the real costs involved with this trip? Have we considered all of the expenses including air fare, accommodations, meals, transportation at the destination, admission prices, activities, shopping and gratuities?
  • Expectations:
Are we realistic about what to expect from this vacation? Is there something that can make every family member happy? Have we picked a place that we can afford? Is it the right time of year for this type of family trip?
