Flight credits
Flight credits unexpired on or created on or after July 28, 2022 will not expire. No action is required on your part! If you have unexpired flight credits as of July 28, they will not expire and are available for you to use.
It will take us some time to update our systems with this new policy. With that in mind, you may notice an expiration date on your unexpired flight credits. Please pardon our dust while we make this change!

A flight credit is a credit from either a canceled flight or a downgrade in fare that can be used to buy a future flight. They can be accessed by the reservation’s six-digit confirmation number.
To see if you have available flight credits:
- Go to the Payment section in My Account. Log in to My Account.
- Or visit the Check Travel Funds page and use your six-digit confirmation number, found in green at the top of your change/cancel email.
Please Note: All confirmation numbers consist of unique six-digit code and do not include the number 0 (zero) or the number 1 (one).
Flight credits unexpired on or created on or after July 28, 2022 do not expire and will show an expiration date until our systems are updated. A flight credit with an expiration date on or before July 27, 2022, is expired and not available for use.
No. A Southwest LUV Voucher is issued by Southwest® and can be applied toward a future flight. However, Southwest LUV Vouchers have an expiration date by which travel must be booked and flown. Additionally, Southwest LUV Vouchers cannot be applied toward government-imposed charges and fees.
Wanna Get Away fares are not refundable, but we still offer a flexible cancellation policy. When you cancel a Wanna Get Away fare, the value of the ticket becomes a flight credit that you can use to buy a future flight.
A few key points to keep in mind:
- If you have multiple people on your itinerary, each Passenger will retain a flight credit. A flight credit belongs to the individual named on the ticket regardless of who paid for the ticket.
- You must cancel the flight at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Otherwise, any Wanna Get Away funds will be forfeited.
- Hang on to your six-digit confirmation number (you can find it in your original confirmation email). You’ll need it when you use the flight credit to book a new flight.
You can check your flight credit balance in two ways:
- Go to the Payment section in My Account. Log in to My Account.
- Or visit the Check Travel Funds page and use your six-digit confirmation number, found in green at the top of your change/cancel email.
Please Note: All confirmation numbers consist of unique six-digit code and do not include the number 0 (zero) or the number 1 (one).
Some reasons why you may not see your flight credit in your account:
- You may not have included your Rapid Rewards® number when booking, changing, or canceling the flight. If this is the case, use your six-digit confirmation number to check your flight credits here.
- They’re not in your name. Flight credits associated with another Passenger will not display in your account.
- They expired prior to July 28, 2022.
When booking a flight, you’ll see an option to apply a flight credit on the payment screen. Each Passenger can use a total of three forms of payment per booking, and each flight credit counts as a form of payment.
If you don’t cancel your reservation at least 10 minutes before the flight’s original scheduled departure time, the value of Business Select or Anytime tickets will be refunded in the form of a flight credit. Any Wanna Get Away or Wanna Get Away Plus funds will be forfeited.
Starting July 1, 2023 (12:00 a.m. CT), for Wanna Get Away® or Wanna Get Away Plus™ award travel reservations: if you do not cancel your reservation at least 10 minutes before the flight’s original scheduled departure time, any points used for booking will be forfeited, along with any taxes and fees associated with your award travel reservation.
For Anytime or Business Select® award travel reservation: the points used for booking will continue to be redeposited to the purchaser's Rapid Rewards® account, and any taxes and fees associated with the award travel reservation will be converted into a flight credit for future use.
Business Select®, Anytime, and Wanna Get Away Plus™ fares are eligible for a Transferable Flight Credit™. Transferable Flight Credit allows you to transfer your flight credit to someone else. Both must be Rapid Rewards Members and only one transfer is permitted. For bookings made through a Southwest® Business channel, there is a limitation to transfer only between employees within the organization. Wanna Get Away fares receive a flight credit, which cannot be transferred to someone else.
No. Southwest flight e-Passes are non-revenue based travel and primarily used for charitable purposes. They are non-refundable and not redeemable for cash or credit. They are not the same as flight credits and therefore, the new flight credit policy does not apply to Southwest flight e-pass expiration dates.
