In order to keep our award-winning loyalty program the best it can be, we’re making some updates to Rapid Rewards.

Wanna convert your qualified travel funds into Rapid Rewards® points?

Turn qualifying travel funds into points – Beginning August 10, 2020 through December 15, 2020

Now through December 15, 2020, you can convert any qualifying travel funds to Rapid Rewards points so they’ll never expire. Plus, you can redeem your points for travel for anyone you want, whenever you want.

Which travel funds qualify?

Travel funds that expire September 7, 2022

They must have originated from a ticket purchased on Southwest.com®, booked by a Southwest Airlines® Customer Representative, or approved by your employer

Note, the name on the travel fund must match the name on your Rapid Rewards account. You must request to convert your travel funds by December 15, 2020. Conversion is non-reversible. When travel funds are converted to Rapid Rewards points, these points will not count toward earning tier status nor earning Companion Pass. Rapid Rewards points cannot be used to pay taxes or fees.

Book together, board together.

A-List or A-List Preferred can now share their early boarding perk – Beginning March 12, 2020

We know getting more time with the people most important to you is everything. That’s why we’re spreading the love of one of our most-coveted A-List and A-List Preferred perks. Starting March 12, anyone on a reservation with an A-List or A-List Preferred Member can board when they do.1 That means everyone on the same reservation gets to board together and pick their seat earlier. Because we can all agree the more time you get with your people, the better.

Go a little further to get big rewards

Companion Pass qualifying points2 increase - Beginning January 1, 2020

We know how important it is to experience new places with family and friends, which is why we created the unparalleled benefit of Companion Pass.3 To continue offering unlimited flights for Companions when flying with their Companion Pass holder, we're increasing the points required to earn a Companion Pass from 110,000 to 125,000 beginning January 1, 2020.

While you will have to go a little bit further to qualify for a Companion Pass, you’ll still get all the fantastic perks you’ve always enjoyed:

The ability to bring your favorite plus one along as many times as you want free of airline charges (excluding one-way taxes and fees from $5.60).4

The option to change the name of your Companion up to three times in a calendar year.

The chance to use your Companion Pass for the remainder of the year you earned it, plus the entire following calendar year.

Don’t worry, for those earning a Companion Pass through flights, you can still earn yours by flying 100 qualifying one-way flights. If you are currently working toward a Companion Pass through points, you can still earn it with 110,000 qualifying points through December 31, 2019. Your Companion Pass benefits will begin the day you earn it and continue through December 31, 2020.

A small price to pay for flexibility

Taxes and fees for same-day standby - Beginning January 1, 2021

Having the freedom of same-day standby can mean heading home earlier when your plans change last minute. We know how much this benefit means to our A-List and A-List Preferred Members.3 In order to keep offering same-day standby free of airline charges5, starting January 1, 2021, anyone who changes their itinerary using same-day standby will be responsible for any additional government taxes and fees that may result.5 On the day of travel, please see a Customer Service Agent at the airport when using this benefit and to learn more about any additional government taxes and fees.

Thank you from the bottom of our Hearts for being a Rapid Rewards Member. We love serving you and can’t wait to see you onboard.

1Boarding positions will be automatically reserved for you and the Passengers on your reservation 36 hours prior to the flight. You and Passengers on your reservation will still need to check in within 24 hours of scheduled departure to retrieve your boarding passes. Some restrictions apply. These restrictions include, but are not limited to, your reservation must be booked 36 hours prior to scheduled departure, and on Group Travel itineraries, priority boarding will only apply to A-List and A-List Preferred Members.

2Companion Pass qualifying points are earned from revenue flights booked through Southwest®, points earned on Rapid Rewards® Credit Cards, and base points earned from Rapid Rewards partners. The following do not qualify as Companion Pass qualifying points: purchased points; points transferred between Members; points converted from hotel and car loyalty programs, e-Rewards®, Valued Opinions, and Diners Club®; points earned from Rapid Rewards program enrollment; tier bonus points; flight bonus points; and partner bonus points (excluding bonus points earned on Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase).

3Companion Pass, A-List, and A-List Preferred only apply to Rapid Rewards accounts for individuals.

4Applies to both purchased and redemption fares.

5On the day of travel, please see a Customer Service Agent at the airport for this benefit. This benefit is not available at Southwest® kiosks. This benefit will be provided for A-List and A-List Preferred Members traveling prior to the original scheduled departure, between the same city pairs, on the original date of travel, where a seat is available. On flights that do not meet these qualifications, A-List and A-List Preferred Members will receive priority standby and will be required to pay the difference in fare and applicable taxes and fees if a seat becomes available. On or before December 31, 2020, A-List and A-List Preferred Members will have free same-day standby benefits. Beginning January 1, 2021, A-List and A-List Preferred Members will have same-day standby benefits free of airline charges, but will be required to pay any additional government taxes and fees associated with changes in their itinerary. Please see a Customer Service Agent at the airport for information regarding any additional government taxes and fees. If an A-List or A-List Preferred Member is traveling on a multiple-Passenger reservation, same-day standby and priority standby will not be provided for non-A-List or non-A-List Preferred Members in the same reservation.
