How Sip and Ship works
-
Bring one properly packaged case of wine—up to 12 bottles, weighing 50 lbs. (22.7 kg.) or less, and falling within our standard sizing limit (62” or less)—to check it free of charge.

-
You must be departing from one of our participating airports across California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, and traveling within the U.S.

-
You must be 21 years or older.

How to pack your wine for air travel
1
Pack your wine in a sturdy, leak-proof container—but don't seal it.
- The container must be a single box or specialized wine suitcase.
- Your bottles must be placed inside a sealed, leak-proof, plastic bag with professional packaging to prevent breakage.
- Additional leak-proof packaging including packing materials such as Styrofoam, molded foam inserts, cardboard liners, bubble wrap, and additional padding of glass packaging is strongly recommended.
2
Bring your unsealed case to the Help Desk for inspection by a Southwest Customer Service Agent.
- We'll inspect your case to ensure it's properly packed, then seal and label it for you before checking it in at no charge. If you require additional packaging materials, you can purchase a padded wine bag for $5 per bottle at the counter.
3
Fly stress-free.
- Your wine will be waiting for you at your final destination. If you don't see your case at baggage claim, check the oversize baggage area—many airports will keep fragile items separate.

Terms and Conditions
Sip and Ship™ is available on select Southwest® flights departing from participating airports in Washington (SEA, GEG), Oregon (EUG, PDX), Idaho (BOI), or California (BUR, FAT, LAX, OAK, ONT, SNA, PSP, SMF, SAN, SFO, SJC, SBA, STS, LGB) to eligible U.S. destinations. Passengers must be 21 years of age or older. One (1) case of wine may be checked at no additional charge, provided it is in the original unopened container with the manufacturer's label and securely packaged in a leak-proof bag with adequate professional packaging designed to fit the proportions of the bottle to prevent breakage. A “case” is defined as a single box or specialized wine suitcase containing up to twelve (12) bottles and weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds. Customers are required to follow the standard sizing policy for checked baggage, which is 62 inches in size (length + width + height). Wheels and handles should be included when measuring. Wine must be checked with a Southwest Customer Service Agent at the ticket counter. The top of the primary shipping container must not be sealed prior to Customer Service Agent inspection at the airport. Wine quantity limitations vary by state. Please check your state's rules for applicable restrictions. Only select flights originating from the above listed states and airports qualify for this offer. Flights departing from non participating cities are not eligible and standard checked baggage fees will apply. Southwest Airlines® does not accept liability for breakage of liquids or fragile items in checked luggage even if transported in special packaging purchased from Southwest. Southwest reserves the right to amend, suspend, or change the Sip and Ship™ program and/or terms at any time without notice. Learn more about our policy at Help Center.
