Safe Travels account

All transpacific travelers aged 18 and older are required to create and complete a Safe Travels account prior to departure.

U.S. vaccination card, negative COVID-19 test, or quarantine

The state of Hawaii has a 10-day mandatory self-quarantine for domestic travel from the United States. Travelers can bypass quarantine by providing a negative COVID-19 Test or vaccination card. The pre-travel test must have a negative result from a test taken from a Trusted Testing and Travel Partner no more than 72 hours before beginning the final leg of their trip. Anyone without a negative test result or U.S. vaccination prior to departure must quarantine upon arrival.

The negative test result, or vaccination card, must be uploaded onto Safe Travels or printed out prior to departure and hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawaii.

HAWAII PRE-CLEAR

In partnership with the State of Hawaii, Southwest® is offering Hawaii Pre-Clear, which allows eligible* Customers to be cleared at their final departure gate or other centralized location and bypass Safe Travels Hawaii airport screening upon arrival in Hawaii. This is a benefit that will significantly reduce airport wait times for our Customers. To be considered for the Hawaii Pre-Clear service, make sure you have met the State of Hawaii’s travel requirements as listed in the above sections, and check to confirm that your documents have been approved.


Next steps after completing your Hawaii travel requirements:

  • You will receive a QR code via email from travel@hawaii.gov
  • Confirm all details within your Safe Travels profile is updated and accurate (i.e., full name, flight number, etc.) for your final departure to Hawaii
  • Present that QR code and your identification to a friendly Southwest Agent at your final departure gate or other centralized location
  • Once your State-of-Hawaii approved Safe Travels account has been verified by a Southwest representative, you will receive a Southwest-branded Pre-Clear wristband allowing you to bypass airport screening upon arrival in Hawaii

As a reminder, each adult aged 18 or older must have a unique Safe Travels account and QR code. Each child or dependent must be listed on one of the guardian(s) accounts. You must bring your U.S. vaccination card or a paper copy of your negative COVID-19 test result and other required documentation for the Hawaii Pre-Clear service.

*Unaccompanied minors are ineligible for Hawaii Pre-Clear. The Hawaii Pre-Clear processing will close 30 minutes prior to your departure. The state of Hawaii reserves the right to re-screen or validate the screening of any Passenger.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. If you meet the requirements of the Vaccine Exception Program, you do not need to take a COVID-19 pre-travel test. All unvaccinated Passengers ages five and older who show proof of a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test from a State of Hawaii approved Trusted Testing Partner taken within 72 hours of boarding the last flight of their journey to Hawaii will not be subject to the State of Hawaii’s 10-day traveler quarantine rule.

There are two options available for travelers seeking to bypass quarantine: 1) Vaccination Exception Program or 2) Pre-Travel Testing Program. Passengers who do not qualify for either will be subject to the Order of Self Quarantine and placed into mandatory quarantine for 10 days.

Safe Travels is a mandatory online digital account for all travelers, within or entering, the State of Hawaii. It collects travel and health information in order to protect the health and safety of visitors and residents. Travelers should create a Safe Travels account and enter information in advance of going through the arrival screening process.

Every traveling adult needs to create an account. The mandatory information gathered in the application will be needed for the airport verification process, which includes a Travel and Health Questionnaire and Quarantine Order. Children need to be added as travel party members under an adult account.

Note: The Health Questionnaire is only available to be filled in no more than 24 hours in advance.

To create a Safe Travels account, go to https://travel.hawaii.gov/ and complete the questions, sign, and submit. You will be able to add minors as additional travel members.

In partnership with the State of Hawaii, Southwest® is offering Hawaii Pre-Clear, which allows eligible Customers to be cleared at their final departure gate or other centralized location and bypass Safe Travels Hawaii airport screening upon arrival in Hawaii.

Meeting the requirements of the Safe Travels program, including creating a Safe Travels account, is required to qualify for the Pre-Clear program. The Pre-Clear Program is an additional benefit that can reduce airport wait times for our Customers upon arrival in Hawaii by having the required information reviewed and approved in advance. To be considered for the Hawaii Pre-Clear service, make sure you have met the State of Hawaii’s travel requirements and check to confirm that your documents have been approved.

All Hawaii interisland travel restrictions were removed in June 2021.
