EarlyBird Check-In is an option giving you the convenience of automatic check-in before our traditional 24-hour check-in, depending on availability. As an EarlyBird Check-In Customer, you'll have the benefit of an earlier boarding position, a better opportunity to select your preferred available seat, and earlier access to overhead bin storage for your carryon luggage.

What is EarlyBird Check-In?

EarlyBird Check-In pricing starts at $15. Pricing may vary based on the popularity and length of each (one-way) flight. A credit card must be used for the purchase of EarlyBird Check-In. Please review our <a href="http://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/travel-fees.html">optional travel charges</a> for more details.

How much does EarlyBird Check-In cost?

EarlyBird Check-In purchases are non-refundable. Customers who cancel their flight will forfeit the previously purchased EarlyBird Check-In option for that particular flight.
In the event that a flight is canceled by Southwest, we recognize that the decision was not within the Customer's control and will process a refund of the EarlyBird Check-In purchase on Wanna Get Away&reg; and Wanna Get Away Plus&reg; fares for that particular flight in the Customer's itinerary. The purchaser's credit card will be refunded within seven business days. If you do not receive the EarlyBird Check-In refund in this time frame, then please <a href="/html/contact-us/index.html" aria-label="Link to the contact information page" aria-describedby="a11y-message-header--new-window" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">contact us</a> for further assistance.

Is EarlyBird Check-In refundable?

Will Customers with an EarlyBird Check-In benefit get an “A” boarding pass and be among the first to board?

EarlyBird Check-In is included with the purchase of an Anytime fare. Customers who purchase an Anytime fare will automatically be checked in to their flight 36 hours prior to scheduled departure&mdash;that&rsquo;s 12 hours before our traditional 24-hour check-in. You will receive an earlier boarding position, improved seat selection, and earlier access to overhead bins. Please note, for Anytime fares purchased between 36 and 24 hours, the boarding position assignment process has begun so this may impact the boarding position assigned to you. If you purchase an Anytime fare within 24 hours of your flight&rsquo;s scheduled departure, you will not receive the EarlyBird Check-In benefit. In an irregular operations situation, resulting in a change in itinerary, you will be assigned the best available boarding position at the time of reaccommodation.

I purchased an Anytime fare, how does the bundled EarlyBird benefit work?  

Customers who have purchased Wanna Get Away or Wanna Get Away Plus fares can benefit from purchasing EarlyBird Check-In, if it is available for purchase on our website. Priority boarding privileges are already included with the purchase of Business Select&reg; fares and are a benefit of being a Rapid Rewards&reg; A-List Preferred or A-List Member or a Passenger on a reservation that includes an A-List Preferred or A-List Member. EarlyBird Check-In is included with the purchase of an Anytime fare. For Wanna Get Away and Wanna Get Away Plus fares, EarlyBird Check-In can be purchased up to 36 hours prior to a flight's scheduled local departure time, when it is available.
NOTE: EarlyBird Check-In should not be purchased (1) for Passengers on the same reservation as an A-List or an A-List Preferred Member as they will receive priority boarding or (2) Unaccompanied Minors since they will preboard the flight. Who can purchase EarlyBird Check-In?

EarlyBird Check-In Customers will have their boarding positions reserved beginning 36 hours prior to their flight's scheduled local departure time. Boarding passes can be accessed beginning 24 hours prior to the flight's scheduled local departure time.

When are EarlyBird Check-In Customers' boarding pass positions reserved?

Yes. Customers who have purchased Anytime fares receive priority over Customers who purchase EarlyBird Check-In with Wanna Get Away Plus and Wanna Get Away fares. If EarlyBird Check-In is available, customers who purchase EarlyBird Check-In with Wanna Get Away Plus receive priority over Customers who purchase EarlyBird Check-In with Wanna Get Away fares. Boarding positions are assigned based on the time stamp of the EarlyBird Check-In purchase relative to Passengers within the same fare product.

Is there an order in which EarlyBird Check-In boarding positions are reserved?

EarlyBird Check-In can be purchased on Southwest.com&reg;, <a href="/html/contact-us/index.html" aria-label="Link to the contact information page" aria-describedby="a11y-message-header--new-window" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">over the phone,</a> and on the app up to 36 hours prior to a flight's scheduled local departure time, depending on availability. EarlyBird Check-In can be purchased as part of the original flight purchase or added to a flight after purchase, but is subject to availability.

How can a Customer purchase EarlyBird Check-In?

Yes, if EarlyBird Check-In is available and is purchased and added to an existing&nbsp;itinerary. If EarlyBird Check-In is available and is purchased within the same transaction as the air purchase, then all eligible Customers must purchase EarlyBird Check-In as well.

If a Customer is booked in the same reservation with other Passengers, can they purchase EarlyBird Check-In even if the others do not choose to do so?

Yes. In the event that we must cancel a flight, we recognize that the decision was not within the Customer&rsquo;s control and will process a refund of the EarlyBird Check-In purchase for that particular flight in the Customer&rsquo;s itinerary. The purchaser&rsquo;s credit card will be refunded within seven business days. If Southwest Airlines® cancels my flight, will I get a refund for my EarlyBird Check-In purchase?

If EarlyBird Check-In is purchased as part of the original flight purchase, then it will be listed in the Customer&rsquo;s air confirmation email. If purchased separately, then the Customer will receive a separate EarlyBird Check-In receipt at the email address listed in the itinerary.

Upon purchase of EarlyBird Check-In, how will a Customer receive a copy of his or her receipt?

No. After adding EarlyBird Check-In, your existing confirmation number and travel details remain the same.

If a Customer adds EarlyBird Check-In to an existing itinerary, will any other components of the reservation change?

EarlyBird Check-In can be transferred only if the new flight departs more than 25 hours from the time of the change. If the new flight departs in less than 25 hours, then you will lose your non-refundable EarlyBird Check-In purchase. Additionally, if the change to your reservation involves a new city pair(s), you will need to <a href="/html/contact-us/index.html" aria-label="Link to the contact information page" aria-describedby="a11y-message-header--new-window" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">contact us</a> to have the EarlyBird Check-In transferred.

If I have EarlyBird Check-In and choose to change my flight, will the EarlyBird Check-In transfer as well?

Hawaii Travel Information | Southwest Airlines

Per the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), certain plants, plant products, animals, and animal products will not be permitted when traveling to Hawaii. For a complete list of items not permitted, <a href="https://hdoa.hawaii.gov/pi/pq/travel-shipping-information/traveling-from-hawai%CA%BBi-to-the-u-s-mainland/" aria-describedby="a11y-message-header--third-party-site" target="_blank" rel="noopener">visit here</a>.
All agricultural items must be declared on the Plants and Animals Declaration Form prior to arrival. Forms will be distributed and collected by Flight Attendants prior to landing in Hawaii. Declared agricultural items must be presented for inspection to a Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) Plant Quarantine inspector in the baggage claim area. Most plants are permitted into Hawaii after inspection.

Are there any items I can’t bring to Hawaii?

Southwest operates from the Mainland terminal in select Hawaii airports. In these instances, mainland agriculture regulations for carry-on bags will apply. Agriculture restricted items need to be placed in checked luggage.
Per the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, certain fruits, vegetables, plants, and flowers are prohibited in carryon items when traveling between Hawaiian Islands. Examples of these carryon restrictions include but are not limited to: fresh fruits and vegetables, berries of any kind, fresh flowers, plants or plants in soil, seeds, live insects, cotton or cotton bolls, and sugarcane.

Are there any items I can’t bring when traveling between Hawaiian Islands?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture&rsquo;s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) prohibits or restricts the transportation of many agricultural products from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland, including most fresh fruits and vegetables and certain types of plants and flowers.

Are there any items I will not be allowed to bring back with me from Hawaii?

You cannot transport pets to or from Hawaii.

Can I bring my pet to Hawaii?

Pets can travel with you when traveling between Hawaiian Islands. Our <a href="https://www.southwest.com/help/additional-travel-accommodations/pet-policy" aria-describedby="a11y-message-header--new-window" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pet policy and procedures</a> must be followed when traveling with your pet between Hawaiian Islands. Can I take my pet with me when traveling between Hawaiian Islands?

Yes. No other animals are permitted on flights from the U.S. mainland to Hawaii. There are strict guidelines and specific procedures that must be completed before your service dog can be accepted into the state of Hawaii. Customers also must adhere to our procedures for accepting <a href="/help/accessible-travel-assistance/trained-service-animals">trained service dogs</a>.
When transporting trained service animals to or from Hawaii, you&rsquo;re responsible for full compliance with Hawaii&rsquo;s laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the transportation of animals, including all documentation requirements. Hawaii Department of Agriculture documentation requirements for trained service dogs must be verified with a Customer Service Agent at both your origin station and any connection city.
If you&rsquo;re traveling to any destination other than Honolulu, you must obtain a Neighbor Island Inspection Permit.
All animals must be declared on the Plants and Animals Declaration Form. These forms will be distributed and collected by Flight Attendants prior to landing in Hawaii.
If an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) is traveling with a trained service dog, a person 18 years of age or older is responsible for completing the required documentation.
Animals arriving without proper documentation may be quarantined for up to 120 days in Honolulu at the owner&rsquo;s expense. Southwest Airlines is not responsible for any costs incurred should you arrive in Hawaii without proper health documentation.

Can I bring my trained service dog to Hawaii?

You should arrange for your trained service dog to arrive at the Airport Animal Quarantine Station at HNL Airport by 4:30 p.m. Normal inspection hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. local Hawaii time. We suggest you allow sufficient time to complete the inspection process by arranging travel on a flight arriving by 3:30 p.m. Trained service dogs not arriving at the facility during normal inspection hours noted above will not be released from the airport the same day. Customers may alternatively request inspection in the terminal at HNL between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. local Hawaii time by notifying the Rabies Quarantine Branch seven (7) days or more before arrival.

What time do I need to arrive to Honolulu if I’m traveling with a trained service dog?

Southwest does not charge fees for you to bring your trained service dog onboard with you.
However, there are fees associated with the State of Hawaii Quarantine Program, and inspection hours and Quarantine Program Fees are subject to change at any time without notice. Are there any fees to bring my trained service dog to Hawaii?

In the event of a delay that would result in your dog not being released from quarantine until the following day, we&rsquo;ll rebook you on the next available flight upon request.
If your flight from U.S. mainland to Hawaii is diverted to a Hawaii location other than your scheduled destination, a Customer Service Agent will meet your inbound flight and ensure your dog remains in the gate area until you have boarded the final flight to your destination.

What happens to my trained service dog if my flight is delayed or diverted to another Hawaii location?

Yes, if you&rsquo;re traveling somewhere other than Honolulu. Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is the only point of entry for dogs entering Hawaii unless a valid <a href="https://hdoa.hawaii.gov/ai/aqs/aqs-info/" aria-describedby="a11y-message-header--same-window-third-party-site">Neighbor Island Inspection Permit</a> has been issued by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture.&nbsp;
If you don&rsquo;t have the permit at your departure airport, you must be rebooked to HNL. Dogs that are denied entry to a Hawaii destination other than HNL will be transported to HNL for inspection or transported out-of-state at the owner&rsquo;s expense.

Do I need a permit to travel with my trained service dog to Hawaii?

Unaccompanied Minors (ages 5-11) and Young Travelers (ages 12-17) can fly on nonstop or direct flights to Hawaii. Young Travelers can also fly on connecting flights to Hawaii.
When checking an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) or Young Traveler (YT) in for travel, the parent/guardian must complete the Plants and Animals Declaration Form at the departure gate. A Gate Agent must verify that any UM/YT has a completed and signed Plants and Animals Declaration Form.

Can Unaccompanied Minors and Young Travelers travel to Hawaii?

All flights between Hawaii and the U.S. mainland are offering alcoholic beverages, as well as free sodas, juice, and coffee. You&rsquo;ll also get an exclusive Hawaii snack bag. For passengers that require a full meal during travel, we highly recommend bringing these items onboard as food is not sold on Southwest flights.
Service onboard interisland flights varies. Flights between HNL-ITO and LIH-OGG offer alcoholic beverages, as well as free sodas, juice, and coffee. All other interisland routes feature water service only due to restrictions with total flight time.

What food and drinks are available onboard between the U.S. Mainland and Hawaii?

We don&rsquo;t have standard or USB plugs onboard, so if you smartphone, tablet, or laptop is running low on battery, we recommend getting a quick charge in the airport prior to boarding.

Payments accepted at all ticketing locations 

A maximum of three forms of payment per Passenger may be used to purchase an itinerary. The following may be used per Passenger: up to three flight credits, up to three Southwest gift cards, and/or up to two Southwest LUV Vouchers&reg;.
When booking a reservation online, flight credits will always be applied first, regardless of the order in which a Customer enters them in the reservation.

How many forms of payment can I apply to a reservation?

No. At this time, we do not offer the ability to split your ticket price purchase between points and dollars.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Can I use a combination of points and dollars to book a flight reservation? 

You can use Southwest LUV Vouchers for travel purchased through Southwest, excluding the Southwest Airlines Group Desk and Southwest Vacations. To redeem a Southwest LUV Voucher, the purchaser must have a Southwest LUV Voucher number and associated security code.&nbsp;

Using Southwest LUV Vouchers® 

Southwest LUV Vouchers and airfare paid with Southwest LUV Vouchers are subject to the applicable incorporated terms, Contract of Carriage, and rules and regulations of Southwest.&nbsp;

Yes, we accept payment from Uplift Pay Monthly loans originated through Uplift.
