Honolulu is a cosmopolitan city that brings together Eastern and Western cultures. Situated on the island of Oahu, Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and boasts plenty of activities for nature lovers and city life. Consider a hike up Diamond Head, trying a taste of shave ice, or hitting the waves for a surf lesson. All of these adventures and more are at your disposal with a trip to Honolulu.
Diamond Head State Monument sits on the eastern edge of Waikiki in Honolulu, and it’s known for its hiking trails, epic views, and military history. It is a volcanic tuff cone formed by the eruptions that also formed other parts of the island’s landmarks, including Hanauma Bay and Punchbowl Crater. It got its name from 19th century British sailors who mistook the calcite crystals on the nearby beach for diamonds. Part of the landmark is closed to the public as it is a platform for U.S. government antennas. But the remainder of the crater offers the chance to hike up the Diamond Head Summit Trail, where hikers can view the beautiful Honolulu shoreline at the top.
