Sports fans, and fans of baseball in particular, will find lots to love and explore when visiting Oakland. Baseball home games are played at the Oakland Coliseum, a stadium that the local baseball team also shares with the Oakland football franchise. This football team has moved to and from Oakland over the years, but its most passionate fans always are close behind. These notorious fans sit together in a section of end zone seats known as The Black Hole—admittedly a dour moniker. But the costumes and language more than live up to the team's and the city's colorful reputations. If you make your sports-centric trip to Oakland at the right time of year, you can catch both the baseball team and the football team.
Nearby Oracle Arena was home to local basketball team when they won a record 73 games during the 2015-16 regular season. It also hosted multiple fights by a multi-division champion Oakland native considered to be the pound-for-pound champion when he retired in 2017.
