When you deplane at Denver International Airport, it’s easy to start exploring right away. Whether you rent a car or take advantage of the mass transit in the area, you’ll be on your way to your Mile High City adventure in a flash. On your way out, though, you may notice that the airport is very, very, very big—it’s the largest by land area in the U.S., larger even than the entire island of Manhattan.
The airport isn’t the only big wonder in the Denver area, of course. The Mile High City sits just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, making it a perfect jumping off point for folks who wish to venture into the mountains for fresh powder. If you’d prefer to explore the mountains with hitting the slopes, Denver maintains the Denver Mountain Parks system, which includes Red Rocks Park. The large red sandstone rock formations inside the park have a range of unique shapes, many of which have inspired whimsical names like Seat of Pluto.
