Dallas was established in 1841, when the region was still considered the Republic of Texas. The establishment of railroads, highways, and eventually airports turned Dallas into an important transportation hub. The ease of access to Dallas, and its economic importance in the region, have drawn a number of different people to the area over the years. The vitality of the city because of this influx of viewpoints and cultures is hard to overstate.
The city itself boasts a number of attractions to suit just about any taste. Walk the 277 acres of Fair Park, home to the annual Texas State Fair. There you can admire art deco style architecture that was created in 1936 for the Texas Centennial Exposition. Find some thrills in, maybe, a completely new way at the world’s only year-round rodeo, held each Friday and Saturday night. Spend the day exploring and shopping in the Design District northwest of downtown. There you’ll find an eclectic assortment of neighborhood art galleries, fashion boutiques, dining options and more. If you’re a true foodie, there is no shortage of authentic BBQ, Mexican, and Tex-Mex restaurants to delight your taste buds. You can even catch up on modern history at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
