Portland is a progressive city known for its decadent food and craft beer, experimental art, weird-but-welcoming vibe, and—in popular culture—where young people go to retire. Experience the best that Portland has to offer on your next trip with Southwest®.
There are many ways to get around the city, one of which is the MAX Light Rail. With nearly 100 stations connecting the airport, city, and greater Portland area, you’re never far from fun. If you or someone in your party is a bookworm, take the MAX from the airport into downtown and stop by Powell’s City of Books, an iconic testament to the printed word with over two million volumes in store. Let your nerd flag fly at OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, with hands-on exhibits and the city’s largest movie theater screen.
If you’re looking to spend time outdoors, take the MAX to Washington Park for a plethora of attractions that are fun for everyone. Take a relaxing walk through the Portland Japanese Garden and get an immersive look at the different styles and varieties of Japanese garden design. Visit the International Rose Test Garden, also in Washington Park, with dozens if not hundreds of beautifully blooming rose bushes. If you thought there couldn’t be any more to do in Washington Park, you’d be wrong. There’s also the famous Oregon Zoo, the oldest zoo west of the Mississippi River.
While there is plenty to see and do inside the city limits, there’s also plenty outside Portland. If you head west about an hour and a half, you’ll hit water. And by water, we mean the Pacific Ocean. Take a day and explore the Oregon Coast—don’t forget your favorite sunglasses, a camera, and an extra layer if the wind picks up.

You must request to be added to the same-day standby list at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your original flight or the no-show policy will apply. If using the app or mobile web, you must list your name 30 minutes ahead of scheduled departure. You will receive a message based on the contact preference selected during booking if you are cleared on the flight. Group bookings and Unaccompanied Minors are not eligible for same-day standby. You will be required to pay any government taxes and fees associated with these itinerary changes but refunds will be provided.
