For a less-trafficked stretch of sand try Sunny Isles Beach, located on a barrier island northeast of downtown Miami. However, in addition to its gorgeous natural landscape, Miami also boasts a rich cultural history and vibrant art scene. Spend an afternoon exploring the galleries at the Pérez Art Museum Miami, a modern and contemporary art museum with an architecturally notable building. Journey into history at the Freedom Tower, known as the Ellis Island in the South, which was home to the Cuban Assistance Center from 1962 to 1974. Today, this National Historic Landmark serves Miami Dade College’s campus as an art exhibition space which is open to the public.
