Visit Omaha.

When you deplane at Eppley Airfield, you’re just three miles northwest of downtown Omaha’s Old Market area. This eclectic neighborhood is a great place to start your Omaha adventure. Get a glimpse of Omaha as it once was, thanks to the original (and uneven) brick-paved streets, historic factory and industrial buildings, and covered sidewalks. Then, explore what is new, unique, and modern since redevelopment began in the area. If you want to indulge in metropolitan pleasures such as hot new restaurants, upscale shopping and chic boutiques, and exciting street performances, this is the place to do so. If you find the area’s history more interesting, then you can join a walking tour of Old Market’s historic buildings with the Omaha Chamber of Commerce.

Interested in the region’s Native history? Visit the Joslyn Art Museum for its collection of Native American art and other pieces related to early exploration of the West. To learn more about the legacy and contributions of African Americans in Omaha and the greater Midwest, explore the Great Plains Black History Museum. Latin American history is celebrated and explored at El Museo Latino, Omaha’s first museum of its kind.

If you’re a red meat fan, you’ll have to make time for a steak dinner during your visit. Omaha is known for their steakhouses, many of which are in the Little Italy neighborhood or near the former site of the Omaha Union Stockyards. Depending on which steakhouse you choose, you might run into a famous local billionaire who’s known to regularly indulge in Omaha’s gastronomic legacy.

While it’s unlikely you’ll run out of things to do during your Omaha visit, those considering a daytrip can cross the Missouri River and explore Council Bluffs, Iowa. Locomotive history buffs will enjoy the city’s contribution to the railroad industry, richly represented by three separate railroad museums.
