Traveling to the Telluride area is easy when you fly into Montrose Regional Airport. You’ll also be greeted with small mountain town charm—the terminal was redesigned in 1988 to include a fireplace centerpiece and a knotty-pine ceiling. You’ll feel as if you’re in a ski lodge when you deplane, echoing what many visitors are headed toward when they deplane in Montrose. Grab your rental car and get going—you’ll want to start your Rocky Mountain adventure immediately.
Montrose may be small, but its importance as a hub for snow-bound tourists during the winter months and sport enthusiasts in the summer makes it a mighty little western Colorado burg. Visitors are welcome to explore the Montrose County Historical Museum to learn more about the town and the Museum of the Mountain West to discover how it fits into the rugged history of the western U.S. The area’s indigenous people are honored at the Ute Indian Museum; make sure to stop in to learn about Colorado’s earliest and longest consistent residents.
