Honolulu is on the island of Oahu, which is often called the Gathering Place. The city is the capital of Hawaii and sits at the confluence of Pacific Island and U.S. culture. Filled with natural features, dining, shopping, and nightlife, a visit to Honolulu will welcome you with relaxing island vibes and a rich history. Whether you’re a foodie or an adventurous hiker, there are plenty of things for everyone to do, no matter what interests you.
A trip to Honolulu offers the chance at attending a luau—a culinary and musical sensation that honors Hawaiian culture. While luaus are often held to celebrate a special occasion or family milestone, there is a variety of opportunities to attend one of these festivities in Honolulu. Consider attending a luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center or at one of the many hotels and resorts on Oahu. Enjoy some of the delicious traditional dishes like roasted kalua pig, coconut pudding, or poi. Watch hula performers tell stories of the history of the islands through music and dance. No matter where you attend a luau, you’re in for the experience of a lifetime.
Honolulu is a cosmopolitan city with a vibrant urban pulse. Head to downtown Honolulu for all your business and government needs. Visit Iolani Palace, a national historic landmark and the residence of Hawaii’s final monarchs, King Kalakaua and his successor Queen Liluokalani.
