Known for pristine sandy beaches, a thriving nightlife scene, and strong café Cubanos, Miami is a city that’s hard not to love. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or simply want to soak up some rays with a good book, a visit to one of Miami’s many beautiful beaches should be first on your to-do list. Head to Lummus Park Beach in South Beach for picturesque palm trees and stunning coastline views, plus outdoor workout equipment, volleyball nets, and a playground for kids. For a less-trafficked stretch of sand try Sunny Isles Beach, located on a barrier island northeast of downtown Miami. Take your pick of beach access on the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west. Another waterfront destination with island vibes is Crandon Park Beach, an urban park with protected beaches, a nature center, golf course, and beach cabana rentals for when you need to get out of the sun.
In a place with sunny weather and mild temperatures all year round, it’s hard to imagine wanting to go inside. However, in addition to its gorgeous natural landscape, Miami also boasts a rich cultural history and vibrant art scene. Spend an afternoon exploring the galleries at the Pérez Art Museum Miami, a modern and contemporary art museum with an architecturally notable building. Journey into history at the Freedom Tower, known as the Ellis Island in the South, which was home to the Cuban Assistance Center from 1962 to 1974. Today, this National Historic Landmark serves Miami Dade College’s campus as an art exhibition space which is open to the public.
