Explore Savannah

Founded in 1733 on the Savannah River, Savannah is the oldest city in what is now the state of Georgia. At the time of its founding, it was the British colonial capital of the Province of Georgia. It served as a strategic port city in both the American Revolution and the American Civil War. The charming cobblestone streets, oak and Spanish moss-filled parks, and colonial era architecture can transport you back in time. Visit historical sites like the birthplace of the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Juliette Gordon Low, the oldest continually operating historical society in the South, the Georgian Historical Society, one of the oldest African-American Baptist churches in the nation, First African Baptist Church, and many, many more sites.

If you’re looking for a more contemporary experience while you visit Savannah, you won’t be disappointed, either. Spend your day rambling through one of the many city parks, like the notable Forsyth Park, or the city’s gorgeous river waterfront. Take in live music or a theater performance at one of the city’s many theaters and concert halls. And you can’t forget the dining. You’ll be hard pressed to find better Southern cuisine and seafood than what you can discover in Savannah.
