Once little more than a Dutch trading outpost at the southern end of Manhattan Island, New York is now home to five boroughs, as many as 800 languages, over 8 million people, and endless places to explore. As the most densely populated major city in the United States, there’s something new to find and experience around virtually every corner in this packed locale.
In one of the world’s great cultural centers, there’s no shortage of ways to be entertained. One night, you can get tickets to the season’s smash show on (or off) Broadway. The next, you can catch the latest clash of the titans at the arena. After a night out in the city that never sleeps, you can take a moment to recharge in Battery Park, where you’ll also be able to board the ferry that heads out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Once you’re there, you can climb the statue’s 354 interior steps and peer out of Lady Liberty’s crown for a stunning view. We won’t blame you, though, if you just admire the scenery from ground-level.
