When you land at Green Airport, you’ll find yourself just six miles south of one of the oldest cities in the U.S.—grab yourself a rental car and get going! History buffs will find plenty to do, and may consider starting at Roger Williams Park. Named for the city’s founder, this 427-acre park is both a historic district and listed amongst the other treasures on the National Register of Historic Places. A perfect intersection of outdoor wonder and historical significance, the park includes a zoo, a botanical center, a natural history museum, a planetarium, rose gardens, Japanese gardens, and more. Take advantage of a tour to ensure you don’t miss out on anything.
This isn’t the only historic landmark in Providence, of course—the town is full of them, and there are even more to visit in greater Providence County. You may not be able to visit all 156 locations listed on the National Register of Historic Places (including 12 National Historic Landmarks) during your time in Providence, but it could be fun to see how many you can make it to before your return flight.
